There are a lot of hosting solutions that offer virtual hosting options. While virtual hosting is a great way to save on the overall cost of renting a server, it’s not always the best option. Virtual servers share hardware with other users, making performance a serious issue for some users. Virtual servers can only move so much information per user before the system gets over loaded, forcing some users to wait their turn before their tasks are completed. Dedicated servers offer a higher performance solution since only one user is operating the hardware at a time. Some software demands more resources and requires a more powerful server solution, such as dedicated server hosting service.

Dedicated servers allow resource hungry programs to operate smoothly, leading to a more responsive experience for end users. Game hosting services would require a dedicated server, or they might experience lagging performance and poor networking. If a game service can’t offer high performance for end users, that provider might end up losing customers to a competitor who can provide the desired performance. While some programs don’t require blazing fast performance, they require large amounts of RAM and storage. Only dedicated server hosting services will be able to offer huge amounts of RAM and storage that larger companies or more demanding clients require. It would be counterproductive to rent several virtual servers to achieve performance since they might be located on a machine hosting several other clients, which would lead to poor performance.

If a resource hungry program is intended to be run on a server, it is always best to rent a dedicated server and pay a little extra for the performance those programs need. Dedicated servers can also be broken up into hardware segments, but not in the same way a virtual server would partition hardware. By allocating hardware to certain functions, a dedicated server will be able to limit the amount of resources a certain function uses. Rather than dedicating all the resources in a server to networking, it would be better to only allocate some resources to sending or receiving data and the rest of the resources to something like rendering images.
